Rain Fails to Dampen CVZ Spirits in Victory Against CC Wettingen-2, T20 Match

In the first T20 match of the season, Cricket Verein Zug (CVZ) triumphed over Cricket Club Wettingen-2 (CC Wettingen-2) by 21 runs at the Wettingen-Aargau cricket ground. Both teams faced challenging conditions, with overcast skies and a damp outfield. However, CVZ's cautious batting strategy, coupled with their effective mix of pace and spin bowling, proved to be the deciding factor in their victory.




CVZ executes batting strategy with patience and determination


CC Wettingen-2 won the toss and asked CVZ to bat first. CVZ opted for a measured approach during their batting innings, focusing on playing safely and utilizing the full 20 overs. Openers Jithesh Godi and Ankush Hasani walked out to the middle with a positive intent provided good start on very tricky pitch. After dismissal of an opening pair, CVZ captain Ranjith Ramakrishanan together with Pritesh Purohit steadied the ship with a solid partnership of 31 runs in 42 balls. The team's fortunes were further strengthened by the arrival of Vaibhav Zirmite, who helped consolidate the innings and keep the score ticking over.

Ranjith played a crucial knock of 27 in 31 balls with 4 boundaries and took the team to a respectable total with the support of rest of the batsmen. CVZ finished with a score of 82 for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.

The CC Wettingen-2 bowlers bowled brilliantly, with Senthilnathan Mariappan being the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets for just 4 runs in his 2 overs.

Chasing a modest target of 83 runs, CC Wettingen-2 got off to a cautious start but lost their opener Sarujan Kumarakulasingam early in the innings. Amit Purohit’s opening spell was threatening as he picked up two wickets in 2 balls in his second over. Vice-Captain Ankush Hasani then took charge and continued the wicket-taking spree, breaking the middle order. Later, CVZ tightened the grip on the match with the introduction of spin attack. Sachin Balan and Jithesh Godi both did not let CC Wettingen-2 middle order to settle and picked up wickets at regular intervals. Only two batsmen managed to score in double digits for CC Wettingen-2.


Amit Purohit shines with second consecutive Man Of the Match award


Amit Purohit was the star with the ball, taking 4 wickets for just 13 runs in his 2.4 overs – which also earned him the Man Of the Match award – the second such award in the last 3 matches!















It was a dominant display by CVZ, who not only won the match but also registered a comprehensive victory against CC Wettingen-2. Despite the challenging conditions, CVZ managed to put up a decent score on the board and defended it convincingly.
